About/Bio
Hi everyone!
My name is Galilea Chadborn. I’m first generation student whose getting her degree and doing the damn thing.
I’m an Interdisciplinary Student with a concentration in Languages. On top of that with a minor in English.
So just a long way of saying, I literally can talk forever.
This website is called “Fried Plátanos” to pay homage to my favorite snack growing up. It’s fried plantain chips with a little salt, and ketchup on the side. And that’s what I want this website to accomplish. Little delicious snacks for your eyes and mind.
I’m someone who adores the arts, writing, and BOOKS! With my sweet kitten (not really a kitten but kitten to me forever) , book in my hand, and my pen as a weapon, are all the things I cherish the most.
Hola,
Just she/they that has a lot of things to say. In a lifetime of silence, I’m ready to break through and share what I have to say to the world. That is why I’ve created this website.
My purpose with this website is to connect one another again in the arts. To feel connected through a good story and to each other. I want to promote more reading, community, love, and resilience. I want to share stories because I feel like we’ve lost the plot of what it is to be human.
I want to inspire my visitors to challenge what you think. I hope this site broadens your horizons. To show a whole world that exists outside of ourselves. That we’re so much more connected than what appears to be on the surface. I want to motivate you to read. Reading is what our brains need. It strengthens our brains, and it can make us more empathetic. I hope to start this off as a blog and podcast then promote it to other crafts.
How I got here was a desire to connect the old me to the present me.
In a place of limbo, searching for a way to connect with my inner child to present me. A child who loved books more than anything and an adult broken down, seeing reading as a chore consumed by zombified doom-scrolling. The tie was severed, and I desired to repair it. I was searching for a fun platform where I can track my reading but that also had a community. I didn’t want to use the popular book tracking platforms, lacking the warmth of community. Browsing through the internet I stumbled upon the one. Bright ombre of pink, purple, and blue with a cartoon worm called, “Bookworm Reads.”

They have a website but it’s mostly used platform is the app. This tool is used to represent who I am through the books I read. Bookworms also allows me to see how I have changed over the seasons and years. My “To be Read” shelf, once 10 or so, now 800. My shelves show what lies in my heart and soul. My favorites pinned to the top as that too keeps changing.

Another aspect of Bookworm that I enjoy is the community; a community that I’ve grown so close to that not only love the books I read but also give the best recommendations. [W3.1]I don’t know what any of them look like, but I’ve seen the way they intimately think, and it shows in their reviews. It shows their interaction with me. It shows in the books they read. We have a discord chat where we update the books we’re reading, life, and even “Pet Parade” to show love for the sweet pets of our lives.
This is where I believe both the digital space and what I want to achieve in my life correlates. The website you’re on here, dear reader, is one of growth and fluidity. Curiosity is the drive that guides us to explore even narratives of ourselves that we are not aware of. This is a digital space where we can feel connected again, safe, and to feel like there’s someone out there who understands us. To build and form relationships. To hear your thoughts as well as you see into mine.
Let’s get to know each other 🙂
